Gordon Brainerd

A native of Florida, Gordon has been around the water all of his life.

As a resident of Tampa, and with family from Sanibel/Captiva Island, Miami and Bradenton, Mr. Brainerd has deep roots to both the State of Florida and his local community.

A former member of the United States Coast Guard reserve, he spent countless hours working with both reserve and active duty personnel, conducting training in safe boarding operations, officer safety, search and seizure techniques, law enforcement tactics, firearms and use of force.

Originally assigned to the COTP/Marine Safety Office-Tampa, Mr. Brainerd served as watch stander, Boarding Officer, and small boat crewmember.

He was also responsible for the formation, organization and operation, of the first U.S. Coast Guard (Reserve) Color/Honor Guard in the Seventh (7th) District.

He was selected to serve aboard one of the U.S. Coast Guards 41’ patrol craft, as a member of the Multi-Jurisdictional, Anti-Terrorist Task force operational during the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California.

Mr. Brainerd spent the remainder of his tenure at Station Clearwater, a small boat SAR station on Sand Key, where he conducted Search & Rescue and Law Enforcement operations.

Simultaneously, Gordon has served his community as a full time Deputy Sheriff with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Tampa, Fl., and post retirement, as a part time/Reserve Officer with a local Police Department.

He has served in varying capacities within the agency, and was heavily involved in training.

He has served as an adjunct instructor to the Pinellas Police Academy, spent countless hours working with Police Explorer groups throughout the state, and has volunteered for many years, as a judge for the annual Police Explorer Competition.

Gordon taught most of the State of Florida High Risk subjects including: Firearms, Tactical or Pursuit Driving and Police Motorcycle Operation.

Prior to and upon his retirement, he was vested with supervising the Sheriff’s West Side Motor Unit, under the Special Operations Division, and held the position of Senior Instructor.

After retirement he continued to provide Safety Training for the large number of motorcycle operators throughout the State of Florida, as an MSF Certified Motorcycle Safety Instructor.

Gordon is the owner of Coastal Court Services, and operates a successful Private Investigative and Court Process Service Firm.

He is a Department of Interior Certified Airboat and Powerboat Instructor, and serves as a contract instructor to that agency when requested.

Along with his associates, Gordon is one of the founders, and serves as President and CEO of On Course Marine Safety, LLC, a company dedicated to promoting boating safety internationally.
